Neural DSP just pushed out the largest firmware update the Quad Cortex platform has ever seen, and it's a free update for every Quad Cortex and Quad Cortex Mini owner — no new hardware required. If you're already running one, or you're one of the Malaysian players waiting on the Mini's local arrival, here's what CorOS 4.1.0 actually brings to the table.
Eight New Virtual Devices
The update adds a genuinely varied spread of new tools to build with: a Multivoicer harmonizer, the Glitch granular delay, a Ring Modulator, Arpeggio Delay, Crystal Delay, Vintage Digital Reverb, a compressor modeled on Dark Glass Electronics' Hyper Luminal (called Douglas Shining), and a Plugin Parametric-4 EQ. That's a lot of new sonic territory added to an already deep effects library, without touching a single cable or buying a new pedal.
More Plugin Compatibility on the Hardware Itself
Neural DSP has expanded which signature Archetype plugin bundles can run natively on the Quad Cortex hardware — Tim Henson, John Mayer, John Petrucci, Rabea Massaad, and Misha Mansoor's plugins are all now supported directly on the unit, not just as standalone software on a computer. If you've been eyeing one of these signature tones specifically, this closes the gap between owning the plugin and actually gigging with it.
Device Presets — The Feature Actually Worth Getting Excited About
This is the one Neural DSP itself is calling the real headline. Device Presets let you save the settings of any individual virtual device — an amp, a cab, a drive pedal, an effect — and pull that exact setting straight into a completely different preset, instead of rebuilding it from scratch every time. Dial in a specific boutique clean amp tone once, and you can drop that same amp block into any future preset instantly.
Neural DSP's CEO, Douglas Castro, put it simply — the update fundamentally changes how quickly musicians can build sounds, cutting out a lot of the repetitive setup work that used to eat into practice or session time. The update ships with 2,000 factory device presets already loaded, giving players a large head start before building anything custom.
Multi-Device Management, for Players Running More Than One Unit
The companion Cortex Control 4.1.0 desktop update now lets you manage multiple Quad Cortex units from one computer simultaneously — naming each device and switching between them without physically swapping cables. It also adds Device Presets, I/O Settings Presets, and Global EQ Presets on the desktop side, mirroring the hardware improvements.
What This Means for Malaysian Players
The Quad Cortex Mini — the smaller, roughly 50%-lighter version of the flagship unit — is expected to land in Malaysia in the RM6,000–6,500 range, and this firmware applies to it from day one since Neural DSP built it on the same 2GHz Quad-Core SHARC architecture as the full-size unit. If you've been holding off on committing to a modeler until the software matured a bit further, updates like this are a good signal the platform is still being actively developed rather than left to coast on its original feature set.
