John Mayer's Silver Sky just got a serious Defender makeover.

PRS has teamed up with John Mayer and Defender for the new PRS Silver Sky Defender Color Collection, bringing together two very different worlds: one of the most recognizable signature guitars of the modern era and one of the world's most iconic off-road vehicles.

The result?

A collection of Silver Sky guitars wearing colors inspired by Defender's heritage and contemporary color palettes.

But there's more to this release than simply giving the Silver Sky some new paint.

The collection introduces new Defender-inspired finishes, special hardware details, limited-edition US-made models, a new SE version and, perhaps most noticeably, the first factory Silver Sky with a black pickguard.

The  SE models have a limited ordering window rather than a fixed production number.

PRS says the SE ordering window runs from September 15, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

So if you're interested in one, this isn't something to casually put on the shopping list and forget about.

Why did PRS Collaborate with Defender?

At first glance, a guitar company and an automotive brand might seem like an unusual combination.

But there's a very obvious connection.

John Mayer is a Defender fan.

The collaboration was inspired in part by Mayer's own Arles Blue Defender, which he has owned for many years.

Is the Defender Silver Sky Actually a New Guitar?
